Leica Geosystems sponsors Young Surveyors event at FIG 2018

Leica Geosystems hosted the 4th Young Surveyors Conference (#4YSC), a pre-event for the XXVI FIG Congress 2018 where the organisation was a platinum sponsor, 5-6 May in Istanbul.

During the event, more than 100 students participated in a variety of events to help them better understand the industry and prepare them for future careers in surveying and other related fields. Social and networking events were also offered, such as a cocktail cruise on the Bosphorus River and a charity dance with proceeds going to Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team Local Community “Yer Çizenler Herkes İçin Haritacılık Derneği" and FIG Foundation

Leica Geosystems Geomatics Vice-President of Marketing and Services Craig Hill served as a keynote presenter, workshop facilitator and technology discussion panel member. During his activities, Hill spoke about the evolving field of technology and how future surveyors can take full advantage of this technology for their trade.

“It was a great honour to participate in the Young Surveyors Conference. Seeing these young people pick up and dive into the content was inspiring,” said Hill. “This is the future of our profession, and I’m glad to see such bright and promising surveyors in the profession. I have much hope that surveying will be well taken care for years to come.”

The students expressed their sentiments throughout the two-day event, finding much value in the activities provide by Leica Geosystems.

“I just wanted to say thank you for your involvement with our workshop, and in general throughout the week. Personally, I got a massive amount out of your involvement, and I feel that your input to the YS Conference was invaluable,” said Robert Mears, an attending young surveyor from New Zealand. “It was great to meet you and the others from the Leica Geosystems team. Brilliant group of people!”
